ClickUp vs monday.com

ClickUp vs monday.com for UAE teams — capability per dirham against speed of adoption, and who should own setup.

Our verdict

ClickUp gives you more for less and asks for an owner in return. monday.com costs more per seat and gets used without one. Pick by whether that owner exists.

ClickUp and monday.com both help teams plan and track work. ClickUp gives you a very broad feature set at a low per-seat price: docs, goals, dashboards, many views and automations. monday.com focuses on visual boards and workflows that non-technical people understand at a glance.

The deciding question is simple: does someone on your team own the setup? ClickUp rewards an owner who will design spaces, statuses and automations, and it gets messy without one. monday.com costs more per seat but tends to get used without much configuration. This page covers price, UAE fit and switching.

Pricing

Starting prices as shown in our directory, checked Oct 2026. They are estimates taken from each vendor’s official pricing page, not quotes. Plans, currencies and inclusions change, so re-check the vendor’s pricing page before you buy and confirm whether VAT is added at checkout.

The cost of each seat, illustrated

On the vendors’ pages in October 2026, ClickUp Unlimited was USD 7 per user per month billed annually and monday.com Basic USD 9 per seat per month billed annually. Illustrative only: a 10-person team would pay about USD 70 a month on ClickUp and about USD 90 a month on monday.com at those entry rates.

Two details change the real number. monday.com sells seats in tiers, so a team that does not match a tier size pays for seats it does not use. And both tools put more advanced features on higher plans. Price the plan you need for your actual headcount on each vendor’s page.

Why ownership decides it

ClickUp can model almost any workflow, but every structural choice needs someone to make it: spaces, folders, lists, statuses and custom fields. Without an owner, different teams build different structures and the workspace becomes hard to navigate. With an owner, ClickUp gives you more capability per dirham than almost anything else in the category.

monday.com takes the opposite approach. Boards are visual and easy to read. Templates and onboarding get teams going quickly. You get less raw capability, but more people use it correctly without help.

Using either tool in a UAE team

Project tools rarely raise regulatory questions, but a few practical points matter. If you store client documents or personal data in tasks, ask the vendor where data is hosted. If your team works in Arabic, test how the tool handles Arabic text in task names, comments and docs before you commit. Confirm support hours too, since support may be based in other time zones.

For finance, check how each vendor invoices you and whether VAT is shown. If you are VAT-registered and the vendor bills from abroad, your accountant may need to account for VAT under the reverse charge.

A two-week test

Free plans make a fair test possible without a purchase, but remember the limits: monday.com’s free plan covers 2 seats, so a larger team will need a paid trial to test it properly. Agree in advance who decides and what counts as success, so the choice does not come down to whoever argues loudest.

The tool your team is still using at the end of the fortnight is usually the right one.

  • Pick one real project and run it in both tools.
  • Ask the least technical person on the team to update tasks without help.
  • Build one automation you genuinely need in each.
  • Check performance with your expected number of tasks and users.
  • Compare the plan you would actually buy, not the free tier.

Choose ClickUp if…

  • Someone in operations will own the workspace design.
  • Cost per seat matters most.
  • You want docs, tasks, goals and dashboards in one tool.
  • You want a free plan for unlimited members while you test.
  • You need extensive automation on lower tiers.

Choose monday.com if…

  • No one has time to own tool setup.
  • Non-technical colleagues must update boards themselves.
  • You share boards with clients who need to understand them instantly.
  • You want automation recipes without scripting.
  • Consistent performance matters more to you than breadth.

Switching between them

Both tools import from CSV and from each other, so tasks, assignees and due dates usually move without much trouble. Automations, dashboards and custom views do not travel. Budget about a week to rebuild them and to retrain the team.

Pick a quiet moment, not the week before a launch. Agree a simple structure first: which teams, projects and statuses you need. Move one team as a pilot, fix what breaks, then move the rest. Archive the old workspace rather than deleting it until you are sure nothing is missing. Confirm the current import options with the vendor, because supported sources change.

Frequently asked questions

Can we migrate between them later?

Both import from CSV and from each other, but automations and dashboards are rebuilt by hand. Budget a week.

Pricing is taken from official vendor pages and dated; where a vendor does not publish list pricing we label it a custom quote, and converted AED figures are estimates. A free trial is never described as a free plan.
