Nas Talent vs traditional recruitment agencies

Nas Talent per-role sourcing compared with traditional UAE recruitment agency percentage fees — cost, speed, screening depth and risk, with the conflict disclosed.

Disclosure. Nas Talent is a brand of SOURCET MANAGEMENT CONSULTING CO. L.L.C — the publisher of this guide. Where Nas Talent appears it competes on the same criteria as every other entry, and the cases where a competitor is the better choice are stated explicitly.

Our verdict

Percentage fees make sense when you need a mapped market and discretion — executive and confidential mandates. For mid-market hiring, a per-role price does the same screening work without scaling against the salary you offer. Disclosure: Nas Talent is our own service.

Disclosure first: Nas Talent publishes this hub, and Nas Talent is one side of this comparison. Read it with that in mind. We have tried to keep it fair by showing agency fees as ranges, stating where a traditional agency is the better choice, and limiting our own claims to what we publish on our pricing page.

The comparison is between two ways of paying for recruitment in the UAE. A traditional agency usually charges a percentage of the hire’s annual salary, paid when the candidate starts. Nas Talent charges a published price per role, from AED 299, paid upfront. Each model rewards different behaviour and suits different roles. The sections below explain how, and when you should pick the agency.

How each pricing model shapes behaviour

A contingency agency is paid only when someone starts. That protects you from paying for nothing, but it also rewards speed. When three agencies work the same role, the first to submit a CV often wins the fee, so there is pressure to send candidates quickly rather than check them thoroughly.

A per-role price is paid upfront, so the provider is paid whether or not you hire. That removes the race to submit, but it moves risk to you. Ask what happens if no suitable shortlist arrives. Our own terms describe a re-run per agreement rather than a cash guarantee, so read them before you pay. With agencies, read the replacement guarantee closely: what it covers, for how long, and whether it is a replacement only or a partial refund.

Worked numbers (illustrative only)

Using the figures in the table: on a AED 180,000 package, a 12–25% agency fee is AED 21,600–45,000. On the AED 240,000 example used elsewhere in this hub (AED 20,000 a month), the same range gives AED 28,800–60,000. The Nas Talent starting price stays at AED 299 per role in both cases, because it does not scale with salary.

These numbers are illustrative, not quotes. They exclude VAT, which is charged at 5% where the provider is VAT-registered. They also exclude your internal time and the cost of the seat staying empty. Where a traditional agency is the better choice

Percentage fees exist for a reason. Retained executive search pays for research: mapping who holds similar roles at competitors, approaching people who are not looking, and managing a confidential process over months. That work is hard to price per role, and for a board-level hire it is often worth the fee.

A good agency also brings judgement built over years in one sector. If you need that, and the role justifies the cost, a traditional agency is the right call. We say so in the use-case table above, and we mean it.

Questions to ask any provider, including us

Good providers answer these quickly and in writing. Vague answers tell you how the work is really done.

  • How many candidates do you typically submit per hire?
  • Do you speak to every candidate before you submit them?
  • How do you check salary expectations, notice period and visa status?
  • What happens if no suitable shortlist arrives?
  • Where is candidate data stored, and who can see it?
  • Can I see a sample shortlist with the evidence behind each candidate?

Choose Nas Talent if…

  • You hire mid-level roles regularly, for example two or more a quarter.
  • The role pays well and a percentage fee would be hard to justify.
  • You want one provider representing your employer brand, not several agencies calling the same candidates.
  • You want shortlists checked for salary fit and availability before you interview.
  • You are comfortable paying a fixed amount upfront.

Choose Traditional agencies if…

  • The search is board-level, confidential or business-critical.
  • You need a mapped view of the competitor talent landscape.
  • The best candidates are not looking and need sustained approach work.
  • You prefer to pay only when a candidate starts.
  • You want a defined replacement guarantee, typically 60–90 days.

Switching between them

You do not have to choose one model for everything. Many employers keep an agency for senior or confidential searches and use a per-role service for repeatable mid-level hiring. If you want to try a different model, start with one or two roles where you can compare like with like: similar seniority, similar salary and similar urgency.

Before you move a live role, check your existing agency terms. Some agreements include notice periods, exclusivity windows, or a fee if you hire a candidate the agency introduced within a set period. Keep a record of every candidate each provider submits so ownership is clear. Then judge the result on the same scorecard: days to a validated shortlist, interviews per offer, and whether the hire is still in the seat after a year.

Frequently asked questions

Why should I trust a comparison where you are one of the options?

You should read it sceptically. That is why the conflict is disclosed at the top, the agency ranges are shown as ranges rather than averages, and the cases where a traditional agency is the better choice are stated explicitly.
